About BAM

Who are the Bay Area Mashers?

The Bay Area Mashers (BAM) is a homebrewing club, formed in 1990, with a membership based in the Northern California East Bay (Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda area). Since formation, BAM has grown from a small group of 10 to over 180 members. Membership is open to all brewers and all those interested in brewing.

BAM’s main goal is to promote the practice of better brewing and to have fun while doing it. The club consists of everyone from aspiring brewers and novice brewers to nationally ranked BJCP judges, current and ex commercial brewers, and winners of local and national homebrew competitions.

Club Meetings

Club meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30PM at Faction Brewing in Alameda. Members and non-members alike are welcome to attend. The meetings usually follow the format:

  1. 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM : Social – Share and taste homebrew, chat, catch up
  2. 7:30 PM – Meeting begins
  3. Kickoff – Club business, style of the quarter and upcoming events are discussed.
  4. Technical Presentation – Each month our technical coordinators line up a speaker to provide an excellent technical presentation on an aspect of homebrewing. Topics range from kettle souring to brewing sake to computer access control for your kegerator.
